Welcome to episode number 2 of the RV Entrepreneur Podcast! In today’s episode I sat down to talk with Adam and Lindsey of NuVentureTravels.com about how to save up for longterm travel (even when you aren’t making a lot of money).
Adam is a CPA and Lindsey is a writer. They are in their late 20’s and just recently made the switch to the RV lifestyle (see their rig “Bernadette” below). However, they’ve been traveling all over the United States and the globe for the past year and a half (just not in an RV).
Something I really loved about their story, was how they went about saving up for the leap to the nomadic lifestyle. It was a very methodical process for them and something they break down in this episode so that anyone can take and use.
There is a big misconception about young people who live in an RV, which is “they are being reckless and not intentional about their future”. However, after listening to this episode with Adam and Lindsey you’ll realize that is completely untrue (at least in this scenario). They have been incredibly intelligent about saving up and working towards building a remote income business, every step of the way.
Adam’s business on the road is a service-based company through his CPA firm called NuVenture CPA.

In this episode we talk about:
- How once you get a taste for travel it becomes the fuel/inspiration you need to create a remote income
- The idea of creating “runway” to build up your revenue while traveling
- How skipping her daily coffee and eating out for lunch Lindsey saved over $1,000 (over the course of a year)
- How they live on $50/day
- Why it’s smart to keep a 6 month emergency fund while you’re full-time traveling

Rapid fire Q&A:
Heath: What do you use for internet on the road?
Adam & Lindsey: AT&T (but will be most likely be switching to the Verizon Jetpack)
Heath: How many hours do you typically work per week?
Adam & Lindsey: Over 40 hours. We’re excited about it. We’re working more than in normal jobs, but have the freedom to change around our days.
Heath:What kind of RV did you choose and why?
Adam and Lindsey: Out of all the options, whether it be class a, class b, or whatever; we knew that 2016 had us going around the country. Then, we asked ourselves, “what’s our travel style?. How fast are we going to be moving?”
We decided we’d be moving kinda slow, sitting in a place for a month or so at a time. We acknowledged that we wouldn’t be moving every night. So we needed something that allowed us to be stationary, but also move back and forth running errands. That kinda narrowed it down to class b or pull behind. Class a or c felt too big for what we needed.
We wanted the ability to drop the trailer and use the car to go into town and drive around. Our casita is 17 ft. It’s a 2009 Spirit Deluxe Casita and it cost $12,500. Also chose pull behind because it was going to be less expensive than a class b.
Heath: What do you guys use for Health Insurance?
Adam & Lindsey: Still in the researching process, but have used World Nomad Insurance and recently switched over to 7 Corners Travel Insurance. In the process of transitioning out of it and then plan to move to Healthcare.gov.
Heath: What is your monthly budget while on the road?
Adam & Lindsey: Right now every month is typically $1,500. Our goal is to spend $47/day.
